137TH EDITION OF VOICE OF THE MIMBARR 21-02-1446 AH/ 15-08-2025 CE WHY OUR SCHOOLS MUST NOT FAIL

Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim

It is no longer news that the development of a society depends largely on the form of education passed down to the new generation. The form of education which gathers consciousness across training and mentoring is the type obtainable in schools. For a school to perform to expectations, its capability to dish out all round education must be the watchword. This incontrovertible position is the stand of the Curriculum Experts and Conscious Societal Analysts. The school-based and out of school experience impact meaningfully on the learners even though they are under the guidance of the school.

Our attention has been drawn to the alarming rate of immorality culminating in structural descending to the lower ebb in its responsibilities. The parents on whom not only the duty of paying but also monitoring the effects of the funds rests are also becoming indifferent if not accomplices in this regard. This is evident in the lack of control in the content of moral experience given at the instance of the children in recent time.

Valedictory occasion or end of the session get-together happens to be one of the means through which schools display the prowess of achievements and by extension, advertising for further patronage. The structural package of this get-together and many others emanating from the schools should be a cause of concern for the parents. Muslim children in particular must be exposed to impactful experience that would build their personality in future and drawing on the positive aspects on which the schools must concentrate.

There might be nothing awful in the school' hiring big halls and event centres to accommodate its get-together among others, but the current trend of lavishing affluence poses several questions such as 'Are we building another world for the children in view of the biting economic situation?'

Valedictory occasions often send messages of encouragement of giant leaps and valour to children for them to mirror admirable past heroes through renditions, poems and cultural display.  However, the uncontrolled wave of affluence displayed nowadays at the Nursery, Kindergarten and Primary School levels leaves much to be desired. One is tempted to ask: 'would parents not throw world-class celebration by hiring the National Stadium or Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, during the Convocation for the First Degree?' Why must we swallow the pill of wasteful spending in spite of the current downturn in the economy?

Not only that, Muslim parents must be wary of the type of Music played during the Schools' get-together. A situation whereby children at tender age are treated to vulgar lyrics and worse songs of sexual innuendos whose theme and content point sharply towards immorality do not serve the purpose of training children on moral precepts.

What is more worrisome is seeing younger female parents in attendance during these sessions dancing to the immoral songs with their children all in the name of catching fun. Granted that dancing may not be out of place as a means of exercising the body needed for human development, such immoral content of the lyrics should be discouraged.

A damage control measure is necessary at this stage. Male parents on whom the responsibility of payment rests must as well create time out of their tight schedule to attend the schools' get-together in addition to the parents forum meetings. This is not only to monitor the package of the planned get-together but also to ensure moral justification for the funds committed to the development of the children.

This is because parents deserve knowing where the funds go which tells on the moral precepts of the school of choice. This position is premised on the fact that most schools appear to operate on the  dictates of the neo-colonial protocols which is out to dominate the mentality, economy and thoughts of the people through programs of education, training and incentives bothering more on deception.

It must be pointed out clearly that part of neo-colonialism is the complete dominance of education with most nefarious concepts alien to both natural and Islamic concept of training. Whereas, leaving children for a school to train is, to a large extent, a big trust a Muslim should not joke with for the purpose of accountability.

The Glorious Qur'an 66:6 is categorical about this where Allah declares: 'O you who believe protect yourselves and your wards from hell... '

It is on this note that we call on parents fora in schools that an integral part of the motive for which the forum is meant is to be vanguards not only to galvanize parents support for the school but also for the total  school set-up not to be found wanting when moral justification is considered.

Hiring of DJs and playing immoral music must be jettisoned if building moral exactitude in children is desired. Contrarily, incorporating moral lyrics is encouraged in the areas of choreography. More importantly, if school is philosophically likened unto salt in the soup components, what then is there to preserve salt if it is too concentrated? بالملح تصلح ما تخشي تغيره # فكيف بالملح ان حلت به الغير

For this and many other reasons parents must be wise. They must leave no stone unturned in the area of putting in place measures of checks and balances. Till we meet again in the next edition, thanks for reading and remain blessed.
