Faces of Nigerian Justices

As a Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria engaged in teaching and active litigation, I find it deeply disturbing to watch video clips of Justices and Judges of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court who now deliver lectures or interviews—lamenting the state of our judiciary. These same voices once sat on the Bench. Today they shed crocodile tears, forgetting they were complicit in the very ills they now condemn. This is judicial hypocrisy of the highest order, and it strikes at the very heart of the Bench’s credibility.

Not long ago, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court publicly lamented the failures of our judiciary. But such lamentations, offered only after retirement, ring hollow without accountability. They are too little, too late.

The truth is simple: honesty, integrity, and a judiciary that faithfully discharges its constitutional duties are the only things that can set this nation back on course...
