Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim
The seven heavens and the earth, and all beings therein, declare His glory; there is not a thing but celebrates His praise; and yet you understand not how they they declare His glory! Verily He is Oft-Forbearing, Most Forgiving! (Qur'an 17:44)." Fervent glory be to Allah (SubhanaHu Wa Ta'ala (SWT) and untiring blessings be upon the noble Messenger Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam (SAW)) and all deserving followers of his guidance till eternity. The topic at hand would take on the dimension of expected steadfastness in the way of Allah in relation to social cycle. The manners of conduct leading to ultimate reward on the multi-various endeavour would be examined.
Should mankind appears obstinate in relation to service to Allah (SWT), Allah is self-sufficient and independent of mortal's worship. It amounts to cheer insanity for man to expect being blessed by Allah and he continues on the pedestal of evil and ingrate. A line of poetry sums up the situation when it says: ' تروم العز ثم تنام ليلا # كيف يسعى في الجنون من عقل
meaning: 'You expect greatness yet you snore in the night; Is it not impossible to be mad in sanity?' This scenario paints clearly the socio-religious enclave in Yoruba land. What do we call a situation of syncretism and ill-fated mixture of faith with disbelief of various coloration except cheer insanity which is rather antithetic to the servitude to Allah?
There appear ten factors in the nullification of Islam in the real sense of faith. The potential factors capable of neutralizing Islam include:
1. Associating partners with Allah in worship even if it is in little degree such as being ostentatious and sacrifice for other things than Allah. Theologically, ostentation is a lower degree of Shirk which is detested in the context of Islam (Qur'an 4:48).
2. Craving for intermediary between him and Allah, relying on it for sustenance. Any object believed to be capable of unleashing arm if forgotten is a faith nullifier.
3. Inability to cast disbelief on pagans thereby doubting their stand or authenticating their dogma.
4. Another nullifier is Bearing the doctrine that aside from the guidance of the Messenger there exist some perfect ways leading to salvation.
5. Detesting any aspect of the mission of the Messenger even if he takes to its implementation is a potential destroyer of faith.
6. Mockery of any aspect of the religious components is also capable of causing distortion in faith. This is rhetorically condemned in the Qur'an 9:65: 'Say: is it Allah, His signs or Messenger you mock?'
7. Magic (Sorcery) in all ramification, is also capable of nullifying faith in Allah. There is no difference between whether he practices it or he is pleased with its performance. Allah recalls the ordeal of Prophet Sulayman (Alayhi s Salaam (AS)) with tactical exoneration and absorption of the same from the Devils (Shayatin) in Qur'an 2:102 and this serves as total disapproval of all forms of magic for Believers.
8. Lending helping hands or supporting unbelievers against the Muslims in matters of spiritual and mundane is a destroyer if faith. To this end, Allah (SWT) warns that: '... There exists no difference between who support them and the supported...(Qur'an 5:5)'.
9. Having conviction that one is at liberty to child out of Islam in quest of certain favour and still remains a believer. This is totally contrary to the theme and contextual purpose of Qur'an 2:208 which stipulates: 'O you who believe, enter into the fold of Islam in totality and follow not the path of Shaytan, for he is to you of avowed enmity.'
10. Running contrary agenda or program against the religion of Allah in principles and or practice. Q 32:22 compares a person acting contrary to the dictates of Allah to the staunch oppressor and criminal of highest order. It says: 'And who does more wrong than one to whom are recited the signs of his Lord, and who then turns away therefrom? Verily from those who transgress We shall exact (due) retribution.'
What then are human efforts that end in futility! Lots of human service are directed towards Allah for reward. This would depend largely on the the genuine intention precipitating such endeavour. The rewards of disbelieving man is hanging and it is likened unto building on land of salt which holds no basis for the building as hinted in the following line: افي السبخات يا مغبون تبني # وما تبقي السباخ على اساس meaning: 'Are you deceived to erect building on salt; in reality the base holds not on salt.'
To sum up, the ever-green reminder dropped in Qur'an 103:1-3 is more imperative via-a-vis the influx of incriminating dispositions such as the ones capable of nullifying man's belief. The exception made in the last segment of the Surah is capable of sustaining believers beyond imagination. It directs more on four cardinal principles which endear him to Allah including: Unalloyed Iman (faith in Allah), A'malu s Salihat (Good deeds), Tawasiy bil haqq (Good counsel with truth) and Tawasiy bi s sabr (Good counsel with patience). It is clear from the above listed factors that the dearth or short-circuit of the quadratic drift man to unbelieving attitude that results in nullifying his belief. We pray Allah for non-punctuated Iman capable of sustaining a believer. Till we meet again in another edition, thank you for being there always and Jum'at Mubarakah.
