PATH TO REJOINDER ON 'CURSING' AMONG ULAMA'

Enough of you cursing whoever refute your principal and his newly adopted Shiite ideology. Those curses are mere waste of time. Here is therefore our own proposal in order to attain a lasting peace and save the ummah. 👇👇👇

A call for a Scholarly Debate to Uphold the Honor of the Prophet's Companions (Ṣaḥābah): A Suggestion to Preserve the Integrity of Islam in Southwest Nigeria

Introduction

The Ummah of Prophet Muḥammad (peace be upon him) is built upon a foundation of truth, trust, and transmission. One of the most crucial pillars of that transmission is the noble generation of the Ṣaḥābah (Companions of the Prophet), whom Allah chose to accompany His final Messenger, support him, suffer for the truth, and carry the message of Islam to the rest of the world. They are the link between the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the generations that followed. Tarnishing their image is an attack not only on their personal integrity but on the entire religion they helped establish.

In light of recent ideological trends being promoted by certain individuals and groups in Southwest Nigeria, particularly within some Arabic institutions, there is an urgent need for clarity, education, and the preservation of Islamic orthodoxy. These trends involve the glorification of Shia ideology and the defamation of the Companions a dangerous path that could bring division, confusion, and long-term damage to the intellectual and spiritual unity of Muslims in our region.

We respectfully propose a formal, public scholarly debate between scholars from both the Sunni and Shia traditions, not for the sake of conflict, but to bring forth truth, evidence, historical integrity, and religious understanding. This is a suggestion in the spirit of unity, knowledge, and safeguarding the Ummah.

Why This Debate is Necessary

1. To Preserve the Unity of Muslims

Unity in Islam does not mean uniformity, but it does mean agreement on foundational principles. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) are a foundational part of our creed. Allah praises them in the Qur'an, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) confirmed their righteousness and trustworthiness. When people begin to undermine the honor and authenticity of the Ṣaḥābah, it plants seeds of doubt in the minds of Muslims  especially the youth  regarding the authenticity of the religion itself. A public and well-structured debate can restore unity by re-establishing trust in our religious legacy.

2. To Protect the Next Generation

The current ideological movement seeks to influence younger Muslims  students in Arabic schools, universities, and religious circles  by subtly injecting doubts about core aspects of our faith. This includes direct or indirect attacks on Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿĀ’ishah, and other great figures of early Islam. If left unchallenged, this will shape a generation that is emotionally disconnected from their religious heritage. The debate would provide clarity, proof, and direction for the youth.

3. To Hold Scholars Accountable

When respected religious figures begin to propagate controversial ideologies without evidence and outside of mainstream scholarly consensus, they must be held accountable not by force or emotion, but through calm, rational, public dialogue rooted in evidence. This is the prophetic method. We invite such individuals and their students to defend their beliefs publicly, and we invite our Sunni scholars to respectfully and intellectually present the truth.

Suggested Debate Framework

This proposed scholarly dialogue will occur on two levels:

I. Young Scholars’ Debate Panel

A moderated session featuring rising scholars and intellectuals from both ideological sides.

Toliat Shia

Saheed Almubaq Shia

Jaqmal Shia

Manfaluty Shia

Dr. Abdulfatahi Sarumi

Dr. Sanusi Lafiagi

Dr. Kaamil Abdulkareem Al-Adaby

Imam Abdulhakeem Al-Kutubi

II. Senior Scholars’ Panel

A higher-level academic engagement to deeply address the ideological, historical, and theological issues involved.

Shia Elders’ Representatives:

The Principal/Director (main ideologue)

Wazir from Kano

Al-Guniyanwy

Other qualified Professors or Doctors among them

Sunnah Elders’ Representatives:

Sheikh Thaoban Adam Al-Ilory

Prof. AbdulRasaq AbdulMajid Alaro

Dr. Imran AbdulMajeed Eleha

Prof. Akorede Agbarigidoma

Prof. Khidir AbdulBaqi Iwo

Prof. Imam Abubakr Aliagan

What This Debate Hopes to Achieve

Expose truth from falsehood through clear evidence.

Provide a platform for balanced intellectual discourse.

Educate Muslims, especially the youth, about Islamic history and creed.

Counter the spread of extremist ideologies masked as academic teachings.

Reaffirm love, respect, and defense of the noble Ṣaḥābah.

A Humble Appeal to All Muslims

This is more than just a suggestion for debate. It is a call to action for every Muslim scholar, preacher, imam, student of knowledge, and layperson to recognize the gravity of the current ideological threat and to work collectively in preserving the pristine message of Islam.

We urge all Islamic organiza tion, media outlets, daʿwah groups, university Muslim associations, Arabic schools, and community leaders to support the call for this noble initiative. Let this be a moment of collective awakening, where we choose to defend the honor of those whom Allah and His Messenger honored.

Let us remember the words of Imam Mālik ibn Anas (may Allah have mercy on him):

“This knowledge is the religion, so look at whom you take your religion from.”

In Case of Refusal to Debate

If any group or party declines to participate in the proposed public debate, we suggest an alternative scholarly arrangement:
Let each side Sunni and Shia organize and present their academic stance independently. This can take the form of:

Public lectures

Academic papers

Documented position statements

Recorded educational sessions

These materials should be made available to the public, particularly to Muslim youth, students of Arabic and Islamic studies, and the general Ummah. Through this process, every group will be accountable to the evidence they present, and the Muslim public will have the opportunity to examine, reflect, and choose the path of clarity, orthodoxy, and truth.

May Allah preserve the unity of the Ummah, guide us to the truth, and reward all sincere efforts to  uphold the honor of the Prophet's Companions.
