135TH EDITION OF VOICE OF THE MIMBARR 07-02-1446 AH/ 01-08-2025 CE ISLAMIC MODE OF DRESSING; ANTIDOTES TO INDECENT BEHAVIOURS

Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim

Our society is currently plagued with immorality of different outlook and the resultant effect of which set humanity in a way of jeopardy. Researchers and concerned individuals engage in thoughtful deliberations regarding how better to ameliorate  the situation before it gets out of hand. Meanwhile, glory be Almighty Allah (SubhanaHu Wa Ta'ala (SWT)) on the honour of life and its numerous benefits. Unequal blessings be upon the soul on the noble Messenger Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam (SAW)) and all entire deserving members of his guidance till eternity.

The topic at hand becomes necessary in view of the incessant immorality pervading human society the extent of which remains unabated. In spite of human endowment with intellect and choice of right thing, his way of indecency appears running out of proportion. Allah categorically declares in the Glorious Qur'an 30:18 that: 'Is then the man who believes no better than the man who is rebellious and wicked? Not equal are they.' Human being is capable of chosing between good and bad, genuine and awful, decent and indecent but for him to descend low in behaviour puts him proportionately inhuman.

Inter-alia, another clarion call in the pedestal of morality comes in Qur'an 7:26 which says: 'O you Children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover you shame, as well as to be an adornment to you, but the raiment of righteousness- that is the best. Such are among the signs of Allah, that they may receive admonition!' The above Ayah bears relevance on various forms of clothing open to human beings. To be exact, his selective power notwithstanding, wearing attires to suit the purpose for which it is created is paramount. Whether conditions considered, alternating abnormally to show off bodily organs is frowned at in Islam.

Before long, on 2nd August, 2017, precisely the second day of President Donald Trump in office during his first term in administration of the United States of America (USA), women in thousands staged protest in America. The march, first of its kind was staged in Washington DC, Dallas and other popular cities of the nation was purported to intimate the newly sworn-in President of the fact that some issues were at stake. The issues include but not limited to recognizing women's Rights, LGBTQ, Gender Equality, Civil Rights, Disability Rights, Immigration Reform, Health Care Reform, Freedom of Religion, Reproductive and Environmental Rights.

As an attendant fall out of the protest, several unprecedented  nefarious dispositions came on board in nations such as Nigeria and other developing countries. Gutter cultures incarnated in sagging, wearing ear rings, female hairdo and tainting hairs by male members of the society which are mainly characteristics of Inmates of Rehabilitation Homes in the USA and United Kingdom (UK) became multiplied in the society. The crave for officializing immorality also resulted in addiction to 'Colos' and male giving to Tattoo which is more susceptible to cancerous ailments. Female became seen rubbing shoulders with male, and dresses like frontless, backless, bra-less, pant-less and Spaghetti form the bulk of wears addicted to by women in the society.

The last nine years had witnessed unprecedented sharp deviation from the celebrated customs of decent dressing as depicted in the above- quoted Qur'an Ayah. Whereas, Islam has always remained catalyst to stamp out the root-cause of immorality in a way a professional fire-fighter would point water hose to the source of fire rather than the flame. The noble Messenger Muhammad (SAW) was reported having warned that: 'Allah curse the imitators of women among men and the imitators of men among women.'

In the same token as part of the report he brought back from the Celestial Ascension during which the daily Salat was given to him, he described two groups of people whose perdition in hell is of utmost certainty. He mentioned: 'A group of people whose extension of dress is so fabulous to the extent of using same to beat people around. The second group remains women though dressed, they absolutely remain nude in public, moving and turning their heads in ostentation!' This frightening report admonishes women in particular as the target in this edition to be properly dressed.

However, some women take exception. Such women are Muslim women whose outside appearance portray elements of piety. Fear of Allah is their watchword at all time and using their dressing to teach others is their culture; culture of chastity, decency and of course humility. Such desirable women are extolled in various places in the Glorious Qur'an. For instance, their outward appearance runs on nothing less than thirteen solid lace materials. For a count, a pant, boxer, leggings, underneath skirt, seamy, cap, scarf, head tie, blouse, gown, wrapper, outer tie and of course, head cover.

How then can women in this manner of dressing be victims of rape? How can a notorious rapist have his way through a  woman in this category? Contrarily, it suffices to draw attention to the plights of pantless, bra-less and  wandering women in nudity who are subject to not only rape but also unnecessary harassment in the society. Muslim women in decent dressing attract respect and recognition. They are mothers who are capable of savaging the situation of nudity painted above since the half-naked come from a home. How did we get here? Who did this to us?

To this end, parents must come to rescue the situation of utter decadence in the name of civilization. If the virtue of Muslim women is to be extolled, the following line of poetry would sufficiently fill the gap. It says: 'ولو كانت النساء مثل هذه # لفضلت النساء على الرجال  meaning: Should al the women be all this good; Men would have been overtaken by women. It is in the same token that the Yoruba parlance comes to play. It says: 'Omo koni ba ipele Iya re ko si aso da', meaning: 'A daughter would rather not but follow the footstep of her mother in dressing and materials.'

Summarily, Islam prescribes definite methods of preserving personality part of which is mode of dressing. Muslim women must not be giving to alternating dresses of other gender. Clothes like body hug, tight Jalbiyyah, frontless and bra-less which ordinarily show the body features and curves are not in any way meant for women. Immorality in the society must, as a matter of necessity, be cautioned from home and projected to the society. Till we meet again in the next edition, thanks for your reading and remain blessed.
